Garbage & Recycling Collection

Garbage Collection Every Week (Brown Cart)

Please place the following in the brown garbage cart:

  • Mixed trash
  • Plastic wrap & bags
  • Broken toys
  • Ceramics
  • Light bulbs
  • Bagged garbage & food waste
  • Styrofoam & other loose trash

Do NOT put the following items in the brown garbage cart:

  • Yard waste
  • Recyclables
  • Household hazardous waste
  • Cardboard boxes
  • Construction materials
  • Electronics

Recycle collection Every Other Week (Green Cart)

Please place in the Green Recycle cart:

Mixed Containers:

  • Clean aluminum foil
  • Tin cans, steel cans, aerosol cans, dried paint cans
  • Glass bottles & jars
  • #1-7 plastic bottles or jugs with a twist top
  • Cartons (juice boxes, milk cartons)

Mixed Paper:

  • Newspaper, magazines, books, mail, school/office paper
  • Brown corrugated cardboard
  • Gray chipboard (cereal & shoe boxes)
  • Brown paper bags

Shredded Paper:

  • Please put in a secured clear plastic bag, and place in the Green cart.  No other recycling should be placed in bags.

Please do not place the following items in the green cart:

  • Styrofoam of any kind
  • Yard waste
  • Trash
  • Household hazardous waste
  • Construction materials
  • Electronics
  • Clothing

Please do not put recycling in plastic bags.  (see exception for shredded paper)  Local clean sweep programs may offer alternative options for disposal of fluorescent light bulbs, household hazardous waste, pharmaceuticals & electronics.

Cart Placement:

  • The arrows on the lid of the cart must point to the street
  • Handles and wheels should face away from the street
  • The garbage cart should be placed within 2ft of the street on one side of the driveway
  • The recycle cart should be placed within 2ft of the street on the other side of the driveway
  • Please keep 6ft of clearance between the carts and other objects, especially mailboxes and vehicles

Bulk / Large Item Collection:

Bulk garbage materials from the Town of Norway can be taken to the Waste Management Metro-Franklin landfill.  This service is for RESIDENTIAL properties only.  There is a limit of 2 yards of debris per visit. 

Excludes: Appliances, Electronics, Recyclables, Hazardous Waste and Liquid Materials.

Additionally, Johns Disposal can provide a curbside special pick up service for a minimum fee of $40 to the resident.  Please call Johns Disposal for further information or to set up collection of large items, appliances, and recyclable materials. 

Excludes: Hazardous waste, liquid paint, bulk loose construction and cement/rocks/dirt.

Hours: This is a 24-hour monitored self-service site

  • Waste Oil (two tanks available to dispose oil into)
  • Oil filters (two 75-gallon blue barrels
  • Antifreeze (one barrel available to dispose antifreeze into)
  • Used Vehicle Batteries (one pallet available to place used batteries on)
  • Waste Oil Containers that are empty (two dumpsters available to dispose of empty waste oil containers)

  • Other garbage/recycling items

Additionally the Town holds 2 e-cycling events one in the Spring and Fall. The e-cycling in the Spring includes the paper document shredding at the Town Hall.  Tentatively in May and September, usually on Saturdays.  This event is free to dispose of electronic items and shred paper documents.
